About 4 years ago I was taking the dogs for their normal walk in the Glen. It was fall and I was looking at leaves on the ground as we went along our normal path. Suddenly I found a leaf the most beautiful rose color with small patches of tangerine and some brown spots. It was beautiful. I realized it was an oak leaf, but the big surprise was when I turned it over. The "right" side was yellow, with some brown and green - totally unremarkable. The beauty lay in the secret side. I began the necklace and finished the top, then put it aside to "age" as I figured out what to do next. In the recent past I have become obsessed with trees and leaves. It took 4 tries, but I finally achieved an oak leaf and a fringe that celebrates "the secret life of oaks." |
